about

When Canadian musician and MC International Criminal teamed up with German producer DJ Phoney it was love at first beat.
A "right up my alley!" comment towards Phoney's instrumental that turned into the album's opening tune "Ave Satani" lead to a collaboration that had the two exchange ideas and work on song after song for quite some time.

Their passion for sophisticated and authentic sounds, lightyears away from the mainstream, and an aversion towards average battle rhyme lyrics let them make a pact that led to this album.
Nights were spent discussing musical influences, politics, literature and their favorite tv series "The Prisoner" (which inspired the track "No. 6") while exchanging creative ideas and recording songs.

DJ Phoney's beat production leans towards the darker and more mysterious side of Hip hop a lot of the time - often inspired by movie scores and library music.
Vocal-wise imagine Busta Rhymes with Saul Williams and Tom Waits. Yeah, that's right - International Criminal is not exactly your average MC.

"Dead Fingers Talk" takes you on a journey that goes way beyond the genre's boundaries.
The kind of album that could've been released on Anticon, Ninja Tunes or WordSound but still wouldn't exactly fit in.
Just let it surprise you if your ears are wide enough...

about

Drake Records Cologne, Germany

Drake Records is a vinyl recordstore as well as a small but dedicated label.
The releases we put out can be understood as a quality statement - we prefer to reach out for an audience that sure could not be described by the term "mainstream".
There is no focus on a certain musical style as long as it really moves either the mind, the heart or your rump.
